Upgrades to take place at Tom Lenihan Park

THE dog-off-leash area at the Tom Lenihan Park in Rosewood will soon be upgraded to a fenced area to accommodate and separate the smaller dogs from the larger dogs.

A footpath will also be installed to connect the off-leash dog area, the sheltered area and the carpark in Bennett Street.

One Rosewood resident, Sarie Taylor, is very happy with the news of the upgrade. Sarie takes her furry friend Zappo to the dog park to burn off some energy and to play ball in the open space that is provided.

She lives within a 10 minute walk of the park, so it is a convenient place to take her dog for a walk and also for a play in the afternoons.

“The idea to segregate the small breeds from the large breeds is a great idea, because sometimes when a big dog enters the area, I do feel a little anxious because my dog is so small, and because it is an off the leash area,” she said.

“This is not an intentional feeling towards thinking that the bigger breeds are vicious, it is just a natural feeling for me, and sometimes my dog can feel a little overwhelmed when the big dogs do approach him.

“Overall, I think that the park is a great space for dogs and for families, and I am looking forward to the changes that will take place.”
